Choose a graphic novel collection of resources physical not digital and explain how you would ensure that your library users are able to find, identify, select, obtain and explore the items in this small collection. Note that the collection does not need to be physically shelved together! You can make that call based on your own (real or imagined) library. I highly recommend describing a physical book collection of about 20-30 resources for this project. Write a7 paper that explains how you would address each of the following aspects of the collection so that it may be discoverable in the Destiny Library Management System. There are questions that should be addressed in each section to help guide your writing. You must cite at least 2 peer-reviewed sources on a topic in addition to your textbooks using APA in-text citation. These sources should justify decisions you have made in your collection or explain concepts (aboutness, authority, classification, etc). Please write in paragraph form and format your paper in APA format. Reference the textbooks frequently (as needed) and additional peer reviewed articles using APA in-text citation and full citation format. Collection Description In this section, provide an overview of the collection you are describing including: What type of collection is this? Who uses this collection and why is it needed? How many items are in this collection? Why is it important that this collection be easily discoverable? Add an Appendix A that includes at least 15 of the items in this collection. The Appendix should include title and author. User’s Demographic and Knowledge In this section, explain who uses your collection and why. Include: What are the demographics of the students at this school or the library users in this library that are relevant to this collection? In a school library, this should be connected to the academic mission of the school. Who are the primary users of this collection and who else might be interested in it? (teachers, students, librarians, administrators, etc.) What is the information needs of the user using this collection? What is the general level of knowledge a user of this collection would have in relation to the content of the collection? What type of questions might users ask when they are seeking resources from this collection? Use 2-3 examples of user questions. Representation of Information in the Collection In this section, describe the necessary elements of a MARC record or catalog entry that would make it so that this collection is discoverable. List all of the fields in a MARC record that should be used when cataloging items in this collection to ensure it is described and discoverable. Explain details of each field and why it is important. Access and Authority Control In this section, your first paragraph should explain what authority control is and why it is important. This would be a great paragraph to cite a peer-reviewed source. Your second and subsequent paragraphs should explain what authorities should be considered for this specific collection. They should discuss: The controlled vocabulary that should be used as a subject authority (Sears, LCSH, etc), and which terms might be common from this vocabulary. Explain which fields and subfields should be used in a MARC record for this item to ensure that users of this collection can find it when searching for authority information. The importance of subject analysis in relation to this collection, and what librarians should consider when determining aboutness. System of Categorization In this section, explain which classification scheme should be applied to the collection and why. Explain the pros and cons of this system of categorization, and how the librarian can ensure that the users are able to find these resources within the physical library. System Evaluation (and Instruction) In this section, explain how information about this collection is retrieved within the library system. Which library catalog is used in this library, what do your users need to know to use this system, and what problems may they have when using it? What action can the librarian take to help make sure this collection is discoverable in this library system? How will you know that the system is working for your users? References Add any references you use to the reference section. Your textbook should be cited several times throughout, particularly as you explain the relevance of each section. You must use at least 2 other peer reviewed sources within this paper. Use in-text APA citation and include them in the reference list in APA format. 10% of your grade will be deducted if your paper lacks 2 peer reviewed sources. Note that at the end of each chapter in Joudrey, there are examples of peer reviewed sources related to each topic. Appendix A As noted in I., add a list of at least 15 items in your collection using title and author information.
