Description
In our final week of class, we discussed the differences between “just wars” and “just means” by focusing on 9/11 and its aftermath. Drawing on information from Chapter 14 and from the documentary CIA Mystery Flights (link to six-part video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0vUZbwD8zo), answer the following questions: 1. Our government claims that it engages in neither renditions nor torture. Does evidence support these claims? 2. Does our government have the right/authority to engage in such activities? Explain your position. 3. What do you think are the legal and ethical implications of such covert government operations? 4. To what extent are these “just means” for enacting a “just war”? To what extent are they not? How does your answer to this question represent your preference for either deontological or ontological ethical systems?
