used Part 1 Introduction: What is your subject and issue, and what is your stand or opinion on that issue? One or two paragraphs. Part 2 – History and Background on Your Subject and issue: You will present a researched history and background of your subject and issue. This section will be relatively objective and informational in nature. You will need to label this section Part 1 – Title this section (aim for a strong title, not simply utilitarian). (I prefer the section titles to be bolded; you can also underline them if you wish). I would expect this section to be a minimum of 2 pages in length. Part 3 – Your Argument: This section will consist of your support for your stand or opinion. It should consist of several support points with various kinds of evidence to convince the reader of your opinion. Label as Part 2 – Title this section (aim for a strong title, not simply utilitarian). 2-3 pages in length. Part 4 – Counterargument and Rebuttal: Present at least two counterarguments to your opinion (you can certainly present more) and then rebut those counterarguments. Label as Part III – Title this section. You can use the utilitarian title of Counterargument and Rebuttal if you wish. 1-2 pages in length. Part 5 Conclusion: Restate thesis in fresh language. Sum up. Be sure to include a strong parting shot.
