I have decided to choose this as my Topic because coming from the Persian background myself, I have first handedly witnessed the elderly women in my family and within the circle of close knit friends and observed their unique ageing processes due to the richness in culture. I have also come to know that it is different from the western woman’s ageing due to two major things: the fact that they are immigrants, as well as the bigger emphasis on back home practices and customs. I hope that introducing such a topic provides our class community insight to a different form of ageing which isn’t mainstream and also helps them see how cultural identity , which includes social class, education, religious affiliation and immigration status) offered a valuable cloak for overshadowing the force of the aging process and the aging process emerged as an elusive force that lurked in the background without ever being fully acknowledged or given power in their lives (Shemirani,2006). The link between the topic at hand and intersectionality will also be discussed. The critical materials I will be using to support my arguments are articles thoroughly researched online, as well as a few examples of case studies for a more personal touch.
