Compare and contrast switches and bridges

Switches and bridges share some similar functions. Their purpose is to make network traffic flow more efficiently and securely thereby improving network performance.

You will write a paper that analyzes the functions performed by switches and bridges. In your paper be sure to include:

• A discussion of the layer(s) the devices use in the OSI model.
• The level of intelligence in each device.
• The specific function of each device in handling data transmission with particular attention to traffic management, network performance, and error recovery.
• Where each device would appear in a network.

Support your paper with a minimum of five (5) scholarly or technical resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic.
