Make sure that you do not just describe who the leader is and what they did. You must
actually identify key examples that illustrate leadership effectiveness in the past and consider
this in relation to the present and contemporary understandings and approaches to
leadership effectiveness today.
What you include in your essay is up to you; however, you do need to follow the correct
essay structure and use the below headings. Please refer to the OWLL site for information on
how to structure and write an essay. Use the following headings in your assignment:
Introduction (approx. 250 words intro PLUS 250 words reflection)
o Reflective element in the introduction: Why you choose this leadership example and
in what ways does this example interest you? Discuss this in relation to your own life
and interests (work, university study, family, friends, volunteer work, sport, or leisure
Discussion (approx. 1,000 words)
o Three/four paragraphs structured accordingly.
Conclusion (approx. 250 words concluding summary PLUS 250 words reflection)
o Reflective element in the conclusion: What you have learnt from writing the essay and
engagement with course materials to influence your own personal understanding of
leadership? Discuss this in relation to what you will be taking away from your
learnings in relation to your own life and interests (work, university study, family,
friends, volunteer work, sport, or leisure etc.).
References (not included in word count)
This assignment should be presented using headings and following APA referencing style
The textbook MUST be cited and referenced in this assignment, and you will need to engage
with the textbook readings to pass this assignment.
Your essay should utilise leadership theories covered in the first 6 weeks of this course, and
you should cite and reference at least 3 scholarly journal articles PLUS the course textbook.
